Anyone who tells you that they can bake your wedding cake in a single day is probably not being realistic. This is particularly true for layered cakes. Layered wedding cakes are created in stages, layers are baked, frozen, defrosted, assembled and finally decorated. This requires at least a week's preparation.
- Prepare a list of cake designers - browse, talk with recent brides, inquire at your local cake shop, and get ideas from your friends and relatives.
- Shortlist two or three from your list and ask for quotes and a sample from them.
- Interview the short listed names.
- Ask for their portfolios (pictures of previous cakes)
- Do they have clever ideas?
- Does their work complement the personalities of their clients?
- Do you see any creative work in the wedding cakes made by them?
- Are their prices reasonable fro what they offer?
