CUTTING YOUR WEDDING CAKE

Traditions and customs evolve with the times and the cutting of the wedding cake has become a much expected traditional event in the modern day wedding ceremonies. The design and make of the wedding cake, the pedestal on which it stands, the accessories and the decoration of the cake table reflect the class and taste of the bride and the groom and much time and money is being spent for this ritual.

  1. The type of wedding reception planned decides the time at which the cake is to be cut. If you are having a cocktail or tea reception, serve the cake after the guests shuffle from the receiving line. If it is dinner or lunch reception, serve the cake after the meal is served.

Search for the hot, best selling, unique wedding accessories by putting the keyword of your choice in our customized search box below.

  1. Get the attention of the wedding guests by announcing that you are going to cut the wedding cake, so that people may gather and cheer you up.
  2. See if the photographer and videographer are ready to cover the event.
  3. Ensure that your wedding cake is photographed and recorded in its full glory before you start cutting.
  4. See if you can bring family heirloom - the silver knife used by the groom's parents or bride's parents for their wedding - to your wedding.

  1. The groom's right hand should be over the bride's. Slice through the bottom layer of the cake together carefully.
  2. The tradition of the bridegroom feeding the bride first and the bride reciprocating is upheld in all weddings now.
  3. After cutting the first piece, the cake should be left to the professional care of the catering staff and the slices should be served to the in-laws first. Brides serving the groom's parents and the groom serving the bride's family will reflect their love and respect for each other.
  4. Identify two or three friends who will serve the cake to others with a radiant smiling face.

Smashing the cake on the bride's head is optional and not every bride opts for it today. Have a wonderful cake and cut in style keeping up with the tradition.
