Wedding Invitations

The wedding invitation is seen by your guests before anything else in the wedding. It sets the tone of your wedding and indicates the degree of formality.

See the tips given below while drafting your perfect wedding invitation.

Wedding Paper Products For Invitation and Thank-You Notes

  1. Decide who is hosting the wedding - the most common choices are the bride's parents or the couples themselves.
  2. Do you want a formal invitation that says "Mrs and Mr ..request the honor of your presence". When the wedding is conducted in a place of worship, the term 'honor of presence' is used.
  3. A casual phrase "please join us" can be used for informal weddings.

  4. The bride's name should be mentioned after her parent's name and only her first and middle name should be printed.
  5. The bridegroom's full name should be followed with a mention of his parent's name.
  6. The date, time and location of the wedding should be clearly stated. Spell out the number and dates.
  7. Include the year of the wedding in the wedding invitation.
  8. If you are using a R.S.V.P card, you need to include a date to R.S.V.P by a line for your guests to provide their name and a line to indicate if the guest is unable to attend.
  9. Enclose a separate map and a stamped, self-addressed reply card
  10. No punctuation should be used except when phrases that require separation are in the same line
  11. Check the spelling of wording in your invitations, especially of uncommon words, such as the name of the hall or street names.
  1. You may need extra invitations or envelopes, so order more than your calculation.
  2. Start sending the invitations two months before the wedding so that ample time is given to the guests to plan.
  3. You also need to let your guests know reception information. You can do this either on the wedding invitation or on a reception card.
  4. If you choose to order a reception card, it needs to include the time and place of the reception. If the reception is immediately following the ceremony, you can indicate this on the reception card.
  1. The invitation etiquette should be adhered to while assembling the invitation. The tissue paper should be placed in the front of the invitation. The enclosure cards like RSVP, Reception and Map should be placed in the back of the non-folded invitation or the inside of a folded invitation.
  2. The outer envelope is to be addressed in a more formal full name format and the inner less formal.
  3. When addressing an envelope for non married couples living together it needs to be addressed to both of them with each name appearing on a separate line.

When inviting children it is appropriate to list each child's name on a separate line rather than writing '& Family".
