Below are the details required to obtain a marriage license

You will need to get a valid license from the State, sometimes even in the town where you are going to get married. Decide the place of your wedding soon.

1. We strongly advise you to get this legal aspect done at least one month before the wedding date.
2. Requirements of documents to be submitted vary as per the state's laws and the basic documents that apply to most of the states are given here
3. Valid Driver's license or Birth Certificate to verify your date of birth
4. All applicants should provide Social Security Number
5. Most states do not require that the applicants have to reside in the state
6. Some states require waiting period from the date of issue of license
7. Some States require you and your spouse to take blood tests
8. The validity of the license varies between one month and six months
9. Presence of one of the couple is required in most cases
10. If either of the partners is a minor (typically, below 18 years of age), presence of both the parents of bride and bridegroom may be necessary when you apply for the license. This rule also varies in different states.
11. If it is your second marriage, a divorce decree of the first marriage may be required.
12. There will be a license fee.

1. Carry the original and copies of the documents you are going to submit
2. Carry your credit card or check to pay for the license fees
3. Ask about the Officiant's requirement
4. Make sure you know whether the license needs to be picked up in person or it will be mailed to you
